Here's the truth about Dasher...
The truth is: they caught the dog 4 times before finally preventing her from escaping
1) had in a back yard. But she jumped a 8 foot fence (??? Supposedly)
2) had in a dog crate, but did not close the door
3) caught in a net, but in 8 seconds, she chewed threw the net (also injured, see below)
4) had snare around her head, but the user didn't know how to operate snare, so dasher escaped.
The truth is: the "dog tracker" is using old techniques.
I've read many articles say "don't chase a lost dog". But the tracker chased the dog multiple times. And the dog got scared and ran away faster. It doesn't make sense for an expert to do this.
The truth is: the dog was injured by the net.
When dasher "chewed" through the net, part of the net was wrapped around her, hindering and injuring her further. When caught the vet had to stitch her up. We asked what caused it. And the vet said "probably the net." It is disappointing that the net was used and it injured her.
The truth is: they didn't want to use a humane trap, but used it as a last resort.
I disagree. The net should have been the last resort. The dog had a routine and it could have used a humane trap during the normal routine. Finally they had to give in and monitor the humane trap 24/7. But the use of the net threw the routine off. She ended up with a different routine. And lucky for us she returned to the feeding station and was caught.
ALSO: I could have set up a web cam to monitor the trap. But they didn't want that.
The truth is: Mick does not live in our area.
He lives in Sunnyvale. But he is using a resource for our neighborhood.
The truth is: I'm not part of the core members.
As much as I tried to help I was kept on the outside. I wasn't informed on Dasher Sightings. I was left out on what actions were being done. for example, searching areas that was known that the dog was not in. Another, when I told people I would pick up signs and someone else already did it and wouldn't say it till hours later.
In the End:
The truth is we saved a dog, that was abandoned. So that was great. And I konw there are lots of people inquiring about Dasher to adopt her.
But I think there were critical mistakes that could have been avoided, especially the mistake of using the net that injured her. And I believe that the amount of resources were underutilized. And the options to capture were out of order too.
UPDATE 01/10/2015: Mick decided he to keep Dasher. She joins his other 2 dogs. Good luck. don't injure any more dogs.
