Marvel Civil War

I haven't blogged anything lately. I've been busy with work and trying not to strangle people. The Sharks are winning until their last game. It's the big push to the end. And they are almost there. TO signs in Dallas. We'll see next year.

So I'll talk about comics because I love comics. Its the next chapter in the Marvel Domino effect. Started with Avengers Disassembled, where Scarlett Witch loses her mind. Then it rolled to House of M, where the Avengers and X-Men decide her fate, but she "normalizes" 90% of the mutants. Then to Decimation, where the world adapts to not having many mutants.
And now, Marvel: Civil War. A Super-hero Registration Act leads into this story. If you have super powers, you must register yourself to the government. This is just like the Mutant Registration Act, but bigger.
The prelude issue has arrived. Many Years ago, in Post-Skrull-Kree wars, Iron Man calls Mr. Fantastic, Dr. Strange, Professor X, Black Panther, Namor, and Black Bolt. Iron Man wants to form a super hero governing body, but not everyone is on board. But they decide to at least help each other out to make major decisions.
Years later they decide to send the Hulk off the Earth. (a short side story)
And now, with Professor X missing and the Super-Hero Registration Act coming, Iron Man says that they should support this law. And he convinces Mr. Fantastic and Black Bolt to join his side. Dr. Strange objects. Namor blames the surface people for these problems. And now the sides are draw, with three heros Pro S.H.R.A.
This starts a 7-issue story beginning in May. Marvel: Civil War

NHL Trading Deadline; Sharks make a move

The Sharks made amove at the Trading Deadline. I think it's small but they got a role player. Ville Nieminen from the NY Rangers for a draft pick. This guy is a good role player with grit. He helped Sweden in the olympics.
I'm not sure about this guy. but if Doug Wilson says its good, it must be good.

The Sharks also traded away Niko Dimotrakos. He's got his ups and downs. He'll be remembered for the game winning overtime goal in last season's playoffs. But this year he has issues. not consistant, can't stay in the lineup, defensive deficiencies. He goes to Phily Flyers for a draft pick.

In other Ex-Shark Trades, Jeff Friesen returns to Anaheim Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. Sandis Ozolinch, ironicly, goes from the Ducks to the Rangers.

The biggest trade was the David Abeisher from Colorado to Montreal for Jose Theodore. Abeisher was under scrutany following the footsteps of Patrick Roy, but will be under more scrutany in Montreal. Theodore's got issues too, first he's injured with a broken heel. And he also failed some drug test for Propecia, which could mask steroid in test.

I don't know if the Sharks got better. They got rid of a questionable player and got a gritty player, probably someone that Scott Parker could have been if he hadn't been injured all year. But the Sharks are running out of time to get into the playoffs. They lost 3 games in a row to teams they are trying to catch. The turnaround needs to happen now!

DC Infinity Crisis

DC is having a major crossover. it is a sequal to Crisis on Infinite Earths. The short story is there are different Parrallel univerises. And they all colided together and only 1 earth remained, known as Earth 1. There are survivors from all the other Earths, a Superman(-2), a Lois Lane (-2), a Superboy(-2), a Alexander (Lex) Luthor(-2), and possibly another Lex Luthor(-2).
Fast forward ahead to now. In 2005 (and some in 2004), they released 4 mini-series comics:
  • The OMAC Project
  • Rann-Thanagar War
  • Villians United
  • Day of Vengence
I admit I didn't read them all. (ha!) but I started reading Infinity Crisis. Without knowing the background I might be missing some things. But what I do know is Lois Lane-2 is dying. And (eventually it is determined that) Superman-2 decides that he wants to bring back Earth-2, also because he believes Earth-1 is a failure. So he ends up bringing back all the infinite earths and causing mass choas among the superheros and people of Earth. Superboy-2 goes nuts and kills a bunch of Teen Titan Members. And finally Superman and Superman2 square off. But at the same time Lex Luthor is running around doing evil (I assume)

The finale is still 2 months away, but they are already promoting the after comics. called "1 Year After" where the comics skip forward 1 year. New teams, new members, new stories. But it will be interesting to see what happens with Superman, Batman, and Wonderwoman. There are pictures with a cape, a cowel and a lasso, meaning maybe they were lost in battle?

Crazy. I'm not much of a DC head, but it's worth a look.
